No. 6 Longhorns slip by Red Raiders
The 6th-ranked Texas Longhorns proved too much for the Texas Tech last night. The Red Raiders hung tough and put a scare into the Austin crowd, but ultimately fell, 95-83.
Texas Tech led throughout the first half and early in the second before Texas seized control. The Red Raiders came out smoking from distance, making eight 3-pointers over the first 20 minutes, which was more than the Longhorns had allowed in a single game all season. But the defense tightened up in the second half, allowing just one 3-pointer, and the perimeter play of Damion James, Justin Mason and Dogus Balbay proved to be too much to overcome. James finished with a game-high 28 points.
James’ performance negated a career-best effort from John Roberson, who poured in 27 points for Texas Tech. Mike Singletary recorded his sixth 20-point game of the season, but it wasn’t enough to prevent the Red Raiders from losing their 13th consecutive Big 12 road game.
