The Texas Tech Red Raiders have announced they have fired head coach Pat Knight after three years at the helm.
Knight took over for his father, the legendary Bobby Knight, after he decided his heart was no longer in coaching.
Pat Knight has struggled during his tenure with the Red Raiders, but it will be interesting to see who the school hires next.
He seemed to have a feeling he might be canned, saying after the most recent game that he will certainly have a coaching job somewhere. (Read More…)

The Texas Tech Red Raiders didn’t even belong on the same court as the Kansas Jayhawks during an 88-66 loss.
Surprisingly, it was the first time that the Jayhawks have won a game in Lubbock since back in 2003.
Head coach Pat Knight said that the Jayhawks were very impressive from the opening tip and that the game was basically over after the first five minutes.
The Red Raiders fell behind quickly and were down 21 points by halftime. They started bombing three’s in the second half, but it didn’t help cut into the deficit. (Read More…)

The Texas Tech Raiders earned their signature win of the season with a 24-17 victory over the Missouri Tigers.
After allowing 14 points in the first quarter, Texas Tech allowed just a field goal the rest of the way.
They shut out Missouri after halftime, an impressive defensive effort against a team with an explosive offense.
The Red Raiders, not normally known for their defense, held quarterback Blaine Gabbert under 100 yards passing. (Read More…)

Texas Tech Red Raiders athletic director Gerald Myers will retire after 14 years in the position.
Myers certainly had an interesting 14 years that saw him boost the basketball and football programs.
He took a gamble in hiring Bobby Knight after he was fired from Indiana, and he turned the basketball program around.
He also hired Mike Leach and later fired him in what was one of the more controversial college stories over the past year. (Read More…)

With the college football season a month away, Texas Tech head coach Tommy Tuberville is preparing for his first season with the Red Raiders.
Despite not yet coaching one single game, Tuberville’s style has been applauded by many fans and players.

Former Texas Tech Red Raiders head coach Mike Leach thinks it was a conspiracy among some on the board of regents to fire him.
Leach was fired after allegations surfaced that he locked a player suffering from concussion symptoms in a dark closet for hours.
He has denied any wrongdoing in the treatment of the player in question, wide receiver Adam James, the son of former college star and current broadcaster Craig James.
The head coach already had issues with the administration before his firing and barely received a contract extension despite his popularity and success at the school.
Leach alleges that some of the regents were so angry with his conduct during contract negotiations that they secretly decided to fire him when the opportunity arose.

The 6th-ranked Texas Longhorns proved too much for the Texas Tech last night. The Red Raiders hung tough and put a scare into the Austin crowd, but ultimately fell, 95-83.
Texas Tech led throughout the first half and early in the second before Texas seized control. The Red Raiders came out smoking from distance, making eight 3-pointers over the first 20 minutes, which was more than the Longhorns had allowed in a single game all season. But the defense tightened up in the second half, allowing just one 3-pointer, and the perimeter play of Damion James, Justin Mason and Dogus Balbay proved to be too much to overcome. James finished with a game-high 28 points.
James’ performance negated a career-best effort from John Roberson, who poured in 27 points for Texas Tech. Mike Singletary recorded his sixth 20-point game of the season, but it wasn’t enough to prevent the Red Raiders from losing their 13th consecutive Big 12 road game.

The Texas Tech Red Raiders have hired former Auburn Tigers coach Tommy Tuberville as their new head coach.
The new coach received a five-year deal worth about $2 million per season.
Tuberville was the head coach at Auburn for several years before suddenly announcing his resignation a couple of years ago.
It was clear for quite some time that he wanted to get back into coaching but was just waiting for the right opportunity.
He replaces Mike Leach, who was fired just a couple of weeks ago because of reports that he made a player with a concussion sit in a dark closet for hours at a time.
